Another M42 ...

M42 has only just become visible to me. My Eastern horizon is blocked by trees and over the CBD anyway with it's light dome. But last night was pretty clear after a good southerly blow and not much glare so I pointed the ASI 1600 at it as I cleared the tree tops at about 70*

60 mins exposure, 10 x 2 min exposures of each filter. Stacked in DSS and assembled and processed in CS2, levels and curves only. Other than my slight ellipsoid stars from my E/W mount error I'm reasonably happy with it.

Just as an interesting comparison here is the same image ( slightly different crop ) but with 25 mins of Ha stacked with the red data. Gives you some idea of how much we cannot see.

Hi Rusty,
The full resolution image shows more but it's always a 'work in progress'.
I'll have another gentle play with it later, mono imaging gives a lot more tweak options at different stages of the process than OSC.

Note: - there are no darks, flats, bias frames or sharpening used in processing this, just levels and some clever curves. Most impressed with this camera. Running it at 0*C and 76 gain through Sharpcap.

ahh fair enough without flats you won't be able to pull the faint stuff out without introducing gradients - looking forward to seeing it progressing
