NGC 6188 testing flattener

This last week we were due a clear night. All night!
So, i got set up ready to do maybe 6 hours on the fighting dragons.


I have now a flattener on my set up, the TSFLAT2, this one:

using the spacing i have i set it to 109.5mm backfocus to sensor. i will get some more spacing options to bring it back to 108mm later this month.



All was going well, the image looked flat.
guiding was 0.72

22x 300s subs in and the mist came into the valley.
That was me done, packed everything up and went to bed.
I woke up an hour or so later and looked out of the window to see the clearest night i have seen here all winter.
I didn't have the desire to get set up again though, it was around 3C.


I will get back to this and do more, in the meantime this is:
22 x 300s
gain 100
-10
stacked etc in APP
a little bit of processing just
to see what is there but i want more data.

A fine image there Jack. Well presented and from what I could establish after viewing the hi res on Astrobin on my mobile phone, stars look round to the edges.I'd say your flattener is working well. Star colours look very natural also, which is a skill in itself to master. Well done.

Clouds were playing tricks with me here in Melbourne last night too. Thickening up then thinning out but never long enough to get a reasonable go at it. Like you, after being out there long ( and late ) enough, I packed it in, being careful not to look at what was happening outside again before I went to bed!

It is always good to receive positive comments while learning something new.

I had this Flattener all along which i bought off the classifieds on here last year for my explore scientific ED80. It didn't occur to me that it would be suitable for this scope until i looked into it. The back focus distance is a little off what is recommended but i thought it was looking great so will leave it here for now.


I got another 50 x 300s on same subject last night which is being put through APP just now.
