I knew/thought Mead was Chinese

ningbo-sunny-electronic-co-,-tld

https://www.meade.com/ningbo-sunny-e...-co-,-tld-152/

How long

Ningbo Sunny is effectively attached to Meade, from the Chinese Chamber of commerce of Zeijang Province

What about Celestron,

One day everything will be Chinese, so much for competition

Celestron has been owned by Synta (same people that own Skywatcher) since 2005. https://chuckhawks.com/celestron_synta_connection.htm

Rumour has it Meade and Celestron improved after the Chinese bought them out, so what's not to like? "Synta ownership does not appear to have lowered Celestron's product quality or performance. Indeed, the recently introduced EdgeHD series telescopes have already earned a reputation as being the best, or at least among the best, Schmidt-Cassegrain type telescopes ever produced."

For a while Meade was manufacturing in Mexico but they still couldn't compete. I think the Chinese company saved them from bankruptcy a few years ago - I don't know what the quality of the LX series telescopes is like these days.

Orion in the USA has taken Meade and Synta (Celestron) to court for $180 Million in damages for collusion.
Orion claim they are the victim of a conspiracy and Cartel behaviour.

Orion says it has proof that the CEO of Celestron and the CEO of Ningbo Sunny corresponded about the purchase of Meade.

Sounds like perfectly normal corporate behaviour.

This is pretty old news.

Meade was bought out by Ningbo Sunny Electronics back in 2013. It had been in financial strife for several years.
