A really thin crescent Venus has been on a bucket list for a while, and after weeks of terrible astro weather, it cleared up for this one just a week before conjunction. It was less than 12deg from the Sun before sunset, a big thin arc only 2% illuminated. I had to make sure the scope did not point towards the Sun 😬 I can trace the 'horns' of the crescent round over 200 degrees of the darkened circle of the planet. Awe-inspiring in the eyepiece too. https://photos.app.goo.gl/tWFHCPF11J4Pn93h7
Fabulous result Andy. I had excellent views when Venus was at the Meridian three days ago. I am keen to try again, but I fear the weather is going to defeat me. It is an interesting challenge to get these “close to the Sun” images and observations.
Great capture Andy, and shows just how thin it's getting as the sun's light hits it mostly from behind. Not much of a difference in width now between the middle and the cusps
