This thread would easily get my vote for "ironic thread of the year award" if there were such a thing.

Is there a "Cryptic post within an Ironic Thread" award too?
Cheers,

The friend who I wrote about earlier:

It seems that things have taken a twist. My friend I will refer to as Tom and his "girlfriend" in the Philippines as Jane.

Tom started asking Jane, if she had a new boyfriend. Jane never answered that question even though it was asked several times over a week.

One day Jane informed Tom that she had been injured in a car accident and needed money. Tom was now suspicious. He refused.
A day or two later Tom contacted Jane's Parents. They knew nothing about any car accident. Jane has not been in contact with Tom for a week now.

Now Tom has been saying to me he believes it was a scam. That has been my mindset since he had told me that a 19 yr o was in love with him.

Tom has now initiated contact with another young Philippine woman.

I now say nothing. I don't want to know about it.

Cheers

Marty,

Send your friend over to Scamwarners and let him see with his own eyes the complete and utter ruin that the Lad(ettes) from Lagos leave vulnerable people in.

I think your friend has issues. Not uncommon though.

Awesome.

We read about this stuff daily on 419 Eater and Scamwarners.

It is thoroughly heartbreaking.

Reading this thread has bought an old Paul Simon song back to me. Snippet below:

'Everybody loves the sound of a train in the distance
Everybody thinks it’s true
Everybody loves the sound of a train in the distance
Everybody thinks it’s true

What is the point of this story?
What information pertains
The thought that life could be better
Is woven indelibly
Into our hearts
And our brains'

We fool ourselves because the delusion gives us pleasure. When, on the way to work, I contemplate what I would do with that $30m I'll never win from that Lotto I'll never enter, it's probably pretty harmless. The trouble is some people believe their delusions and try to live them.

It seems that the Brains of older people are slow because they know so much...

People do not decline mentally with age, it just takes them longer to recall facts because they have more information in their brains, scientists believe. Much like a computer struggles as the hard drive gets full up, so do humans take longer to access information, it has been suggested.
Researchers say this slowing down it is not the same as cognitive decline.
The human brain works slower in old age, said Dr. Michael Ramscar, but only because we have stored more information over time .
The brains of older people do not get weak. On the contrary, they simply know more.
As you will be aware, older people often go to another room to get something and when they get there, they stand there wondering what they came for. This is NOT a memory problem, it is nature's way of making older people do more exercise.

When I watch those competition shows on TV I often have the correct answer but the buzzer by the champ beats me.
My partner urges me to compete I tell her I am too slow, even though I have the correct answer. The Millionaire show is easy but the questions become more difficult as the prize increases. There's not many questions I get wrong.

So with this fact I tend to agree with Terry. Memory is fine but recall is slower.

Cheers
Oh? What was the question again?

If you have ever been in the Philippines, it is not hard to imagine that car accidents happen very often Worst traffic I have ever encountered. When I was there in Dec, I was worried I was going to make the plane home, I allowed 3hrs for the 10km journey, only took an 1.45hrs though.

On the other side of it, from people I know in the Philippines, the morality of "double dating" is very open and questionable. I have heard many stories of two friends dating the same woman and both knowing about it, yet the woman denying everything and these are locals, not imports.
