Wow, very nice. I'm re-posting the CN pics here... hope that's OK?

what - 50kg load limit - so how heavy is the rc16? 2/3rds rule means mount will take 35kg easily

The 12" with metal tube weighs in at 22Kg ATM and with the truss tubes should weigh in at even less making it well within the Losmandy gII range.

You should see it with a 10kg imaging train. Even the PMX will be tested with the current tube. I have ordered an entire truss minus mirrors to help with the weight equation. The current mirrors I have will go I the new truss.

A metal tube may prove problematic for thermal currents and keeping focus. How did it work out with the smaller GSO RCs? Did you have an aluminium tubed one?

Greg.

Its more about the length and diameter of the tube having a big moment arm for vibration - I doubt the EQ8 would handle an RC 16 effectively. What do others think ?

Nah the other was a carbon fibre Greg. The Ali tube is ok but cools rapidly and requires focus after each sub for the first hour.

Mark if the RC16 is a truss which I am told it will be. Then it might not be a problem. The new truss design looks good and very light, so the moment arm might not be such a problem. That said I don't know if the EQ8 could really guide with that size scope on it. My gut feel is maybe.

I wouldn't have thought a brick outhouse would have arc second accuracy

I would imagine that amongst the common designs for a 16" scope, an RC (especially a truss) would have one of the smallest moment arms.

Throw an AO unit into the image train (plenty of bright guide stars with a 16" aperture) and the mount only has to track unidirectionally in RA.

You'd have to record "logs" of a different kind to find out

I think the EQ8 maxes out at a 14" short tube. It handles my SCT and anything I care to hang off it with ease, but 16" would be going too far. It would handle it in much the same way as a 14" on a G11; possible but not pretty!

Unless it is outstandingly light and rebadged the RC16 Air...

That is what I would have thought .

Having an EQ8/RC 16 combination in a dome may be doable.

The Astrotech version appears to be well engineered... In contrast, I would hope that the version shown in the dxf rendering that Allan posted earlier never sees the light of day, it is unnecessarily flawed.

caveat emptor.

Yes - how will the first ones go?

The first ones may be quite good as they would most likely come
under closer scrutiny from the factory.
It would be nice if they provided an optical certificate for that sort of money.

What length subs are you able to get with good tracking and at what focal length ? The RC16 would have a native focal length of 3.2 meters.
