apo triplet vs apo doublet

I bought an apo triplet telescope from a chinese site when it arrived it was an ed80 doublet. When I said to the supplier that this is not what was in the description he said:
"APO structures are all 3-piece structures, which is not wrong"

Are apo doublets 3 piece structures?

The description said:

1, optical

New optical design, three-piece air separation and achromatic design, which includes a piece of ED glass made in Japan, can provide better optical performance; All lenses are processed by classical method to ensure lens accuracy.

The photo showed a telescope with an objective description (surround) saying 480mm f6 80ed apo triplet. I got sent a 560mm f7 80ed apo doublet.

What do I say to the supplier who sold me this scope?

Cheers Kanga

Chinese sites with conflicting descriptions are a real red flag for me, you can never trust the photo either. If you bought it from Alibaba or aliexpress they are generally pretty good with returns. You might have to push a little harder on more expensive items though. What do have to prove it's a doublet, have you taken it apart or are you going by the label?

Hi David,
I got it from a shop called 'outdoor movement store' on aliexpress. The label on the objective says ed80 apo doublet 560mm f7. (The shop has now changed the photo and the description to show an ed80 apo doublet 560mm f7 and the optical description says it consists of two pieces of glass one piece Japanese.)
Regards Kanga

You've got a couple of options; you can negotiate a partial refund from the supplier or get a full refund (assuming you paid with paypal). You can probably get the refund through aliexpress but if there's a problem with that process you can get a refund directly from paypal after lodging a crime report - my wife just went through that with a $40 item which was misrepresented by a Chinese seller.

perhaps the scope in this link
https://www.astronomyalive.com.au/pr...tor-telescope/
Then it is a triplet, and if you have made a better deal than locally, I would use the scope and keep it if it performs well.

Hi again,

I was sent a doublet - it is not the 480mm f6 80ed triplet. It is a 560mm f7 apo 80ed doublet.
If you read the specs near the bottom of the page you will see that the triplet is actually the shorter focal length of 480mm.

What specifically does your Aliexpress order say with regard to the specifications of the scope you ordered?

If it says 80mm f6 Triplet & you were sent an 80mm f7 doublet then I would raise a dispute via Aliexpress. Unfortunately, you will need to have evidence to back up your claim that you ordered the 80mm triplet in order to pursue the dispute.

If you have the specfics on your order or, perhaps a screenshot of the advertisement when you ordered i would lodge a dispute and at least see where that goes.

These shops on Aliexpress sell everything and nothing. Among those they push scopes. In other words they do not know what they are selling.
Is this cheating? Most likely in part it is.
