First Solar Image

Got home from a night imaging up at Heathcote a few hours ago and the skies were nice and clear in Melbourne. Considering that my work hours typically have me starting work before the sun and getting home after the sun has hit my tree line I thought it might be good to try to do some solar AP.

By the time I'd unpacked my car, set up the solar scope and started there was already some high level cloud settling in for the day but I figured I'd give it a go anyway. Was struggling to see the granulation in the photosphere in the eye piece so that gave me an indication of what I was in for.

Lunt 80 + ASI120MM-S
50% of 10,000 frames at 0.3ms. Stacked in Autostakkart and processed in PixInsight.

There are a few spots that don't seem to have stacked well, mostly along the edge of the sun. I did some processing in Registax but as I'd neither used Autostakkart or Registax before I definitely over did the wavelets in Registax

The spot I'd originally set up on ended up with the sun behind a tree branch so my polar alignment was "carry it 20m to a sunny patch of lawn". Need to revisit the 11GB AVI and get to grips with Autostakkart a bit more.

Maybe it wasn't as over cooked as I thought but by comparison, this is what I got out of Registax for wavelet processing.

Image acquisition maybe limit to 600 frames, it's all you need to start with makes your files smaller as well. It will take some time to adjust your personal settings but your on your way.
