Cone & Fox Fur, Horse Head and Toes

Playing a bit with some old data from february 2016 that I managed to get around to and process a little better. That was 40x5min with a QHY8 OSC and the old Q.

I have a high res here and the full field here which is a little less interesting but for the cluster side.

Here's the next one with the same rig 19x10min, still a bit noisy but some cool colours and details.

Did the colour balance and stretching in goodlook. All the stacking and drizzle integration was done in PI. Trying different rejection algo. Some of my little stars get holes in the cores so I tried to do a star mask and blur them a little. I'm not sure if it's a result of the cosmetic process or rejection algo.

Here's another one with the same rig 23x5min. Bit noisy in the blue channel again, need to remember to dither.
I have a high res here and 1:1 here

Beautiful stars, subtle delicate dust lanes, very nicely processed.

I've always found this region to be very difficult. You've done a lovely job.

The richly populated golden cluster (golden because it's behind dust?) on the far right is an added bonus.

Best,
Mike

Thanks guys. Yeah the cone is very faint. I wanted to do it this summer but the weather and the heat were just too much. Actually the whole Orion/Monoceros area was a write off.

A pair of good images there Marc. The Horsehead is the standout.

The flame nebula came out nicely in particular. Your stairs look good as well so no hint of any trouble there. You probably left some sharpening on the table though. The Horsehead would take a fair bit more sharpening.

Greg.

Thanks Greg. Well it's too noisy to do anything with it really. Not enough data. I worked out the issue with the stars. I didn't dither the subs so the debayering and drizzle integration is having a hard time rejecting hot pixels and doing its thing. Next time.
