Ngc6520 & b86

Needed a one night stand so went for an easy target. NGC6520 and dark nebula B86. This really brings home the saying that there are more stars in the sky than all the grains of sand on all the beaches and deserts on Earth.

GSO 10" F4 Newtonian, Canon 1100Dfs, 345 x 30 seconds unguided.

I love the target and the colour Kevin, but it's a little too defocused for my eyes (I was trying to refocus my eyes!).

Boy do I love dark stuff...

You're just smashing out the pics aren't you Kevin!

Have you got a cloud dispersion machine or something????? I've been clouded in for a week!

There's probably a couple of things going on to create that effect Lewis. Atmospherics are pretty bad here at the moment. Stars are not as tack sharp as with warmer weather for some reason. Wouldn't be able to do planetary at the moment. And the mid-tone only stretch has a soft appearance to it. I also haven't used any sharpening. Best thing to do is zoom back until it looks better.

We are having a cold snap here in north QLD Jon. Winter = mostly clear. But we are in for an easterly change with cloud and showers. The Moon will put a stop to things for a while too.

That is a nice one Kevin, you're right about the stars versus gains of sand on all the beaches.
I got some great shots in the early days with my Canon 600D DSLR, there is a lot you can do with them. Once you start down the path of CCD's, the dark side of the force takes over, and there is no turning back.

Cheers
Peter

kevin i agree that is was a tad blurry, i couldnt help myself and had a tweak from your original one from astrobin used unsharp in PI to slightly touch it up a little, its a subtle difference

Thanks Dave. I have tracked down the culprit. It's jpeg compression loss. For IIS I have to keep the file under 200K, but even Astrobin is a jpeg. The original TIFF is considerably sharper than the Astrobin one. I'll have to experiment more with compression levels. It gets tricky for busy starfields as the file sizes can really blow out for big files.
