Crazy Airglow

We seem to be getting nice airglow lately. This is my second crazy burst for the month. Initially I was doing a pano and realized I could see striations with the naked eye that correlated with green bands in camera. So I set the camera on timelapse for the rest of the night. The striations rivaled the Milky Way in brightness.

Western Australia, Jan 29/30 2014.

What a remarkable shot. Man you really go the extra. How the hell did you find a nice tree'd island with symmetry like that?

Wow.

Greg.

Thanks guys

Yep, Lake Ballard. I've been waiting for water to surround this island for awhile. I think the last time it properly surrounded it was 1995? The rainfall a week and a bit ago was the biggest since the 1930s. So I headed out. The water was a bit high for reflections, but still only 10 cm or so deep.

That's some image Colin. Not slowing down at all eh? :-)

Looking forward to seeing the timelapse in a few year's time.. at least airglow moves nice and slow.

Still got the passion Phil, hopefully I don't loose it! The timelapse looks pretty cool. The airglow moves quite fast (for airglow). Quite a bit of cyan in it which is unusual. I really do need to put all these timelapses together!

That's out my neck of the woods! I didn't realise there was water up there at the moment though. Looks like I should throw a day trip together for the kids tomorrow.

Good luck. Let me know if the water still surrounds the island?
