Stars have stopped twinkling ... Jupiter looks 'wow'

Howdy. It's 23:30 and I'm outside with my dob wishing the moon would disappear! About 20 mins ago however it seemed like everything fell into place; the wind stopped, the stars stopped their rapid twinkling and the view of Jupiter became rock solid - perfect. Currently watching a GRS transit. The best view I've had in a while. Seems like good 'seeing' ATM here in SEQLD

Hi Wren. Commiserations re: the Melb weather. I lived there for three years in the mid 90s and know exactly what you're talking about FWIW the Skippy astro forecast was spot on for last night - the viewing conditions were great in SEQLD (I live west of Ipswich) and while I'm not an expert, I could clearly see detail on Jupiter that I normally struggle with ... festoons in the cloud belts, detail around the GRS etc. I hope you get a break in the weather & a chance to enjoying the night skies during the Christmas break :-) Alex
