Guiding scope/camera setup advice needed

I image with a DSLR on an AT-65EDQ. It's really sweet but until now unguided.

I have attached my 100mm F/5 achromat as a guide scope since I already had it and can't see the point in trying to sell it (for what $100?). I was thinking of using a QHY5L-II mono camera to guide with.

For reference the mount is an HEQ5.

Q1) Is this camera, being sensitive but small (1/3" sensor) be a good choice for guiding on this scope?

Q2) The peak sensitivity of the QHY5L-II is around the OIII region. I was thinking of using my visual O3 filter to improve the contrast in my light polluted environment. Would this be a reasonable idea?

Any suggestions or general advice would be much appreciated.

Thanks,
Cam

A lot of people use a QHY 5 as an autoguider. I believe it is the same chip as the popular Starlight Express Lodestar.

As far as using a filter I would not do that. Narrowband filters are designed to block out all light except that narrow band of light. So you may find it very difficult to find a guide star. But try it out, perhaps its not such a narrow O111 filter.

Greg.

Cheers Greg. I'll bite the bullet and buy the camera.
