RASA 11 Bintel $5000???

Now if I was investing this is what I would buy...but you probably would need an EQ8 at least...still would you be happier with that or that cash in the bank...mm plus you would need a dome...so spending.. sorry investing $5000 in the scope may cost more than first thought...still I would rather the gear than the money if it's only getting say 3%...
But $5000 is good buying is it not?

$5k would very quickly turn into $15k before you could image with it I would guess

Buying equipment is not an investment Alex. It is like buying a car, it depreciates as soon as you take it out of the box.

Materially yes but think of the investment in the joy of playing with it

I must admit i often justify a purchase with reasoning along the lines of "if I'm playing with that then I'm not spending money elsewhere"

I think his best bet may be bank shares or under the bed if they charge him to leave money in an account...or in an observatory that I could rent from him.

Unless that equipment is an Astro-Physics 130GTX .

I've got a Pentax 125SDP but not certain if it'll ever appreciate like the AP does.

RASA, no chance....

A 12 inch RC would probably do me instead. Cheaper and only just a bit too heavy for my NEQ6 --see my thread on the EQ5 for this EQ6. Oh. wish I could afford this.

Celestron is now marketing the RASA V2 with improved focuser to reduce mirror flop. Could explain price reduction.

I read on Cloudy Nights some guys having troubles with the RASA specifically mirror shift and mechanicals not being up to the job.

I've read the 14 inch is quite different and much better quality.

I have never seen a Celestron or Meade rise in value over time.

Even an AP really. They may hold their value but not rise that much although some AP155's go for US$12,000 and new they were something like $6000.

Greg.

I'm sure you will be pleased to know AP RHA sold recently on Astromart for $US28k...with the $AUD at near ten year lows, that's around $AUD 42,400.00

But you are correct, Celestron and Meade 'scopes rarely, if ever appreciate.

As for cars...depends upon the car
