St2000xm desiccant question

Hi all,

I'm just after a bit of guidance. I recently purchased a 2nd hand st2000xm off a fellow IIS member.

Finally got a clear night to give it a go and noticed a fair amount of frosting up. I know this model has a desiccant cartridge that needs to be baked from time to time. It also has a dummy plug to replace the actual plug while baking.

Question is this camera only came with one plug and I don't know if it's the dummy or the actual desiccant.

Does anyone here know how I could tell which one I have.

Cheers.

From memory, the desiccant plug has one end with gauze over it to expose it to the camera, and the plug is just a solid plug with no gauze. HTH

Here’s a quick photo of the dummy plug from my ST2000XM purchased in Australia in Oct 2010.

Thanks for the feedback.

Dennis that photo is a huge help. I'm currently baking my plug in the hopes that it was the right one.... Thankfully it is.

Cheers

Here is the real plug - hope you removed the O-Ring!

Ha, yep remembered to remove the o ring.

Camera is sitting in an airtight bag while the plug cools. I'll argon charge the bag before putting it all back together.

Fingers crossed all this will lead to some frost free images
