Jupiter 20th May

I got out again last night to see if the adjustments I'd made to my RA motor on the EQ5 had improved it's tracking, saw Jupiter near the moon and lucked out on capturing the GRS. Seeing was still poor and the Planet was jumping around and distorting under the conditions but at least the RA motor past the test.

Nice Jupiter image, pity about the seeing, the bane of us all. What scope , camera etc were you using for the capture, I'm thinking the image scale could be pulled back a bit to help with overall sharpness.
I'm imaging an Ganymede shadow transit atm, will be curious how the avis' turn out, a lot of high cloud around tonight wrecking the contrast. Enough clear patches to make the effort worth it ( I hope ).

Good luck with your efforts Jeff and thanks for your advice. I'm using a stock standard DSLR through a 8 inch scope on an old Eq5 mount. Eyepiece projection with a 2x Barlow and 9mm eyepiece. I might use my 12.5mm eyepiece next time to bring the image scale down a bit and see if it improves the sharpness although to be honest, the seeing was pretty dismal when I captured this.

Thanks Kevin, I always admired the results you achieved when you were using a DSLR for astrophotography. Your shots were quite often better than those who used CCD cameras. How are you finding your new ( or not so new now) CCD camera?

Thanks Mick. It's been so cloudy since I bought it I haven't had much of a chance to use it! Stupid weather.
