Orion Nebulae

Dear all,

What do you think about this one?

Canon 6D
30 Lights frames x 5 minutes + bias, darks and flats frames
SW Esprit 120ED
Target in the north. Waning gibbous Moon on the east.
Processed in Pixinsight, that I am learning...

Very nice picture Fernando.

I'm just delving into pixinsight too and I've discovered it needs a supercomputer to run

My advice is maybe next time take a few shorter exposures and blend them in to the core that is blown out (white bit). Will give you some more detail.

Overall though a good capture, you sure have gotten better over the last 12 months!

Great capture.
If you have photo shop you may find running the "burn" tool around the burnt out region may bring stuff up you never thought was there...
Great work. Keep them coming.

Great rich colour and detail. PI works fine on my i5 Mac mini. Just expensive and fiendishly complex work flow.

Dear all,

Thanks for your comments and suggestions. I just got a Pixinsight tutorial on processing M42 in order to not "blow up" the core. I will try to process again and see if it works. I will post it here as soons as I can.

Pixinsight is complex and is said that there is "a tough learning curve": so far, it seems true to me. Looks like there are 20 different ways to do the same thing in PI))))). It may be computational demanding; once, I tried to run drizzle; it took so long to finish that I do not run drizzle anymore.

I wouldn't say "tough learning curve" merley it has a learning curve. So many people seem resistant to any amount of learning which i suspect is the reason many complain. they expect a button that does everything so they don't have to think.

Certainly a great starting picture, colours, exposure, sharpness all looking good. There is much more structure in that shot though in both your over and under exposed areas. Its such a large easy target and observable almost everywhere so there's plenty of images to see and make sure you're bringing out whats there well and not overdoing things. The massive dynamic range in the structures within that field of view present a challenge for every astrophotographer regardless of skill so its a target you can keep learning from and return to in the future as your skills grow. If you havent already, take a look at the tutorials on Light Vortex.

Getting a good handle on using the various masks in PI will really help you with working on selected regions and protecting others. So here it'll help you get a natural looking result in exposing orions core well.

I agree with you. And, for me, it has a "steep lerning curve", as said to many others. It may be easier for many.

Anyway, I do not have any experience with Nebulosity os Photoshop. My understanding is that this is a hobby and we have to have fun!!! Whatever works, is fine!!!
