Horsehead and flame

Yesterday I moved my attention to IC 434 and NGC 2023. Obviously I overbaked poor Alnitak in my postprocessing and I don't have any flattener so eggs everywhere in the corners...

... so much to learn!!!

A fantastic start Bohdan.

Far better than most of our 'first efforts!

Remember to keep a log of your nights, things like target, exposure etc.

It's great to see some clear sky again...

Oh another thing, backup your data.

Still you gotta be happy with that. Would love to hear more around how you combine broadband CLS with the narrowband Ha on a one shot colour camera? And what the benefits are?

Thanks Peter - though as I know myself keeping log is for me a harder task than all capturing and processing but makes sense and I'll try

Robert - I used 2 ways of combining Ha to RGB - one was described by Astrobackyard's Trevor where you take red channel from RGB and combine it with Ha and then you use that as a new red channel in rgb - I used it in my Orion nebula photo but that one is too messy at the moment to actually benefit from it. Plus it is dead easy to do in Photoshop but in Affinity Photo you have to go through loops an hoops so there is that too.

On this one I took a bit lazier approach - I put Ha starless stack as a new layer above the starless layer and used hue or colorize to blend and enhance red and the structure in the nebulosity. There is some improvement and as for if it is worthy with RGB - well jury is out on that but to me it is worthy on Ha rich targets - and if nothing else it is a good exercise for me.
