Advice needed when adding Luminance layer to RGB.

Hi,

I am using Photoshop CS3 and need help.

I am opening my Red stacked image and using it as a base convert it from grayscale to RGB. I then open green image and copy it and paste it into the green layer in the channels section. I do the same for Blue but at this stage I have no histogram as the images I think are 32 bit. I then go to image mode and make the red channel active and reduce it to 16 bit (i think) and then my histogram comes up.

I have then tried to create another layer in the channels section and paste the luminance layer into the channels but I think because the luminance was taken at 1x1 binning and colours at 2x2 they don't line.

Is this the correct way to do this as I am using the Photoshop Astronomy book but have lost the plot.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Mark
