Post Disabling Invisibility Mode

I was looking through the "User Options" recently and I found an invisibility mode which allows an user to hide their username when they're active on site. I find the idea that an user should or would want to hide their username so that no one knows they're here rather disturbing. Usually, if someone is hiding, it means they have ulterior motives for doing so and quite frankly I feel this is not in the spirit of the boards (or any other forum, for that matter). If it can be disabled, I think it should be.

I frequently look at the 'active users' list, out of trying to show courtesy and respect for someone who may be replying to my prior post.

It gives them a turn to respond and prevents the perception of the 'steam-roller' effect, which generates resentment on the respondent's side, for not having given them a fair go.

Sometimes the posts we're making take a considerable amount of time to compose and I use the 'active users' list in the above way.

I think Carl has a valid point here.

Cheers & Rgds.

No I don't think he has a valid point, no one is sneaking around this site as a member, just sometimes they want to browse around and be in the background, I do it myself sometimes

.. and what if people log out when they're not posting anything and just browsing as a guest? And then just login to post? A large percent of the member base does just this. It's certainly not something we could, or would want to, disable.

There's probably many completely valid reasons why people choose to go 'invisible'. I don't think being 'sneaky' or having ulterior motives is one of them.

I 'sneak' around too

Sorry .. I thought Carl was referring to some different mode in the 'Setups' config.

I'm not worried about 'browsers' .. I'm one of 'em !
I do use the Active members as I described, however.

Cheers

I do all my best work as a moderator in "Stealth Mode", catching would-be spammers before they can post.

Yep, I use it too. For personal reasons.
No offense intended.
