Wow - interesting image Jason. Lots of stuff happening towards the camera end of the lens! I assume those are the extender lens elements.
The 400mm f5.6L IS sounds exciting for daytime work - fantastic if they can keep the extra glass/electronics down to a minimum for astro work.
Would be a great option for your safari trip.

That looks wonderful Doug!,certainly be perfect for my interests-unlikely to ever be able to afford it,I am sure it will quite a few K-plus.

I was reading another forum and they're predicting that 200-400 f/4L IS to go for around $7k at least. Don't let it sway your decision much

Ouch!

Yes, I suppose when you take in to account what the current 400mm f/4DO costs, the L zoom with more features is going to be up there isn't it.

At that price (or anything near it) it's not going on the list!
