NEQ6 EQ Direct Cable on a HEQ5?

Hi all,

I got an old NEQ6 EQ Direct cable (USB to RS-232 cable), and am wondering can I re-use it on my HEQ5 via a simple RS-232 --> RJ-45 adapter? Thinking something like this or just manually splicing it myself:

Reading EQ Mod's website it appears this should be fine as long as I wire up the terminals correctly

I made up a cable from the handset to the HEQ5 myself as described here
http://www.iceinspace.com.au/forum/s...d.php?t=172945

I had a spare serial adapter lying around and a straight through RJ cable which is the other part you need. Or two standard rj cables and a cable reverse connector. But that is only for Pc mode connect which is “flaky” other than for updates.

I was too impatient to wait for a cable to update my handset but i would not really recommend the process if you are buying parts anyway.

I just bought a second hand eqesb2 shoestring cable for ascom direct here and that seems like the least fraught path for full eq ascom control. There are enough variables in the software as it is. Works well now.
