Did Ron advise a backlash setting ?
I was out a few weeks back with good seeing and I got a nice symetrical v-curve grpah when focusing with SGP pro. I presume if there was large backlash issue the v graph wouldn't be symetrical. The graph was poor earlier on in the evening when the atmosphere was still cooling down.
Ron didn't advise one, I never asked him about it. I was getting an asymmetrical graph with warnings that the HFR after the focus run wasn't ideal. I used to get the same with my DIY focuser automation which had significant backlash, so I tried adjusting that, which seemed to largely negate the issue. The LiteCrawlers aren't supposed to have backlash but to be honest I didn't really care as long as it worked, but now that I hear yours didn't suffer the same issue, I wonder if it was another symptom of whatever underlying cause that triggered the complete failure of the in-out movement.
The LiteCrawler is on its way back to me, after being back with Ron for a week. Apparently the crimp on the cable between the encoder and the focus knob failed. We're not entirely sure how that caused PC control to fail, but apparently everything's working fine now that the cable was fixed and it's on its way home.

Ron's service is always excellent, can never fault him! Even with the issue mine had I'm not unhappy with my purchase. I don't think there's anything comparable on the market at this price point and it really is an excellent product.
Nitecrawler can carry a lot more weight too. The litecrawler is designed for a lower payloads. Something to consider when buying either. I bought the nitecrawler because I have an STXL with AOX to use on the RC. It is a very heavy camera and the litecrawler would not have handled the weight according to Ron.
Yep the LiteCrawler is designed for 12 pounds carrying capacity. The nitecrawler is designed for up to 25 pounds. The difference is the distance between the bearings since the LiteCrawler is thinner to maximise backfocus. My qsi683ws8 (which is a heavy camera) weighs about 1.6kg so 12 pounds should be more than enough margin for me.
There is only one litecrawler model (2.5") but the nitecrawler comes in 2.5, 3 and 3.5" drawtube diameter versions.
