All sky camera

Hi team,

Can anyone suggest an affordable all sky camera that I can mount on the roof?

I'd like to just be able to check the images and make a determination whether it is worth pulling the covers off and image.

All recommendations gratefully received.

Thanks.

H

Define 'affordable'.
The ZWO AS120mc comes with a fisheye lens for just that sort of purpose but it's not cheap I'd say.
Any webcam with a fisheye lens might be the answer. Have a look on DealXtreme, heaps of weird stuff on there and cheap.

Up to, say, $500?

I get spammed by DX as I've bought from them before.

Direct from ZWO the ASI120MC listed under $300. You'd need a weatherproof cover for it and maybe a powered USB cable extender.

you could probably interface it with Doug's clear skies program
http://www.mcdougalltech.com/page1/page1.html

I don't think it can be added to the automation chain.

since this analyzes jpg's, you could have a cheap dslr as well with the right lens of course.

interesting...

Cheers

Maybe something like this for a cover: http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Waterproo...item51be72bce5

I guess you'd need to remove the black plastic bit inside the dome but that shouldn't be a big problem.
