Telescope name change

Renamed my darling FSQ-106N today to "Cricket"...because all I hear is cricket's chirping waiting to use the poor thing here in the land of Cloud and Dust...

I see why some people just give up altogether (I could never do that). Every single night that has been clear, it's either been a Moon (no good imaging), or I just finished a 12 hour work day and just too damned tired to bother.

Gotta pull the trigger finally and buy the STC Duo-Narrowband filter for the OSC - as much as I dislike NB imaging, I think I just have to swallow that pill...I can NEVER go mono due to the simple fact of so few capture moments.

Why don't you just call it "an innings"?

Hi Lewis
You are correct...there are so few opportunities...however narrow band is rather cool☺.
I was going to ask why you just did not give your scopes numbers and then I realised "cricket" probably would be shorter☺.
Get your next thing ... it makes you happy right and really the game is not as expensive as some...

Nope - this is finally my final telescope - owned it for a record - for me - time now. It's not going anywhere.

Took a LOT of scopes to get to this point of complete satisfaction, but I am there - and it is fluorite - so nirvana

Mine's pretty much been acting as an expensive door stop for the past 6 months as well... and I can hear the crickets as well, or maybe they're frogs... yeah I think they're frogs...

Frogs

Houghy calls my 150 a “door stop” too.
Maybe I should call it my Greek Kabab.

Then maybe go for "Omega" as its name

Best

Gotta agree that fluorite does give some very nice color saturation. I've gone directly from vivid green to homer radioactive fluoro green.

Even though my small scope is far less expensive or capable than yours, Marc, mine hasn't had much use over the past 5 or so months here in Brisbane.
Around my place, it's crickets, mosquitoes, cane toads, and geckos that I hear at night.
I've still not managed to think of a name for my scope.

I know right - even I can make half-decent images

Maybe...

Sympathy, well kind of

Gee I get twitchy after 3-4 consecutive nights of clouds, luckily a rare event here.
The painful periods are at seeding and harvest when the appropriate machinery drives all night with massive LED illumination. Still my immediate neighbors only take 2-3 24 hour days for these operations.

So solution, move to the bush. I did and took my job with me.

Buy a rain gauge. I've got one here (and there are plenty of others in CW NSW) that've been practically unused lately.

Lewis the “big wet” in 1991-2 caused me to ditch all my gear - in Sydney it was raining or overcast every weekend without fail for 18 months straight.

Took up another hobby instead. And didn’t buy another scope until 2007.

Great to hear Lewis. I was also hoping to get a 106, but for a number of reasons I wanted a brand new one, so eventually had to settle for a cheaper alternative.

I'm wondering, given your extensive experience with a significant number of refractors, whether changing your telescope's name is a substitute for changing the telescope itself...
