Maybe one month the challenge should be for everyone to photograph the NGC object that corresponds to the year of their birth.

This is terrestrial photography though .
Good idea for another comp. though Markus, you have me curious now which is mine. Not that I could do anything about it though because I don't have astrophotography equipment .

Cripes, that'd be easy for me - that'd be The Running Man nebula in Orion.

Some people would get easy targets, some would get hard ones. And with different levels of experience, it wouldn't be a level playing field. But it would be interesting to see the results, I think.

Why didn't I get to vote on this? Just logged in to do so and I'm not given the opportunity. It took me straight to the results page.
Today is the 4th (1.20pm) and it appears voting is still open.

It means you've already voted.
Look at the names of each member on the list.
The ones you've voted for will be in italics.

The Poll is now closed Trevor.
The closing date for entries is (usually) the first morning of the new month, and the Vote is Always 3 days.
So closing the competition at 9am on the 1st means that voting was automatically closed by the system at 9am on the 4th.
That's the way it has always been.
Sorry you missed the opportunity. (unless as RB said you may have already voted)
...I've just been out all morning, so haven't had an opportunity to do the formalities....watch this space ...

Cheers.
I thought it might be a server problem because I logged in and typed a long reply to a comment on one of my photos, when went to post it I was told I needed to log in. Lost the lot.
I'll be quicker next time :-)

And this month the title goes to ...
Congratulations to Tim, (zenith) you have been voted our winner for October.
Brilliant picture, and the effort was appreciated by our readers.
Well done also to runners up Suzy and Regulus (Trevor). Tim's effort was a tough act to follow, but your images were also beaut.
Thankyou again to everyone who participated, viewed, or commented, and everyone who voted this month.
Tim, your entry now proudly hangs in our illustrious Hall of Fame.
Now, if you would, please set us a new challenge for this month.
Thanks

OK.
Re Timeout:
Make sure you have ticked the " Remember Me" box in the logon on screen.
That can sometimes cause a similar problem (happened to me once or twice)
Cheers

Yes, "the Poll Closed" is another reason why Trev couldn't vote.
Thanks PC, I didn't even check that, I assumed it must've still been opened.
Disadvatage of using a tiny smartphone screen.
Congratulations Tim and well done all.

Thanks for the votes everyone, and Trevor I really liked your photo a lot.
The theme for this month should be something in a "Forest".

Congratulations Tim.
Great concept.
Beautifully captured.
Deserved winner.
All the other shots were very nice too.
Now... where's my hiking boots!
...and the aeroguard!

Thanks Tim. But I concur with the rest who voted for you: yours is a worthy win mate. So I dip my hat, and look forward to this Forest challenge. Congrats again.
