The Elusive Witch

This week I drove out further from Melbourne's LP to a place called Christmas Hills to have a go at IC 2118. I mounted the Canon 550d on the Sightron Nano Tracker and snapped 40 x 40 sec subs @ iso 1600, f 3.5 with an old Pentax 135mm prime lens.

This revealed the Witch but the gradient from either Melbourne's LP or approaching high level cloud made it tough. I plan to have another go at a darker site. More subs too!

PS. I did venture a few kilometers further out than last attempt and took more subs with same exposure and setup. Better detail but Melbourne's LP gradient still evident. Looks like I'll have to drive for a couple of hours at least to capture this one under darker skies. Last photo was taken from a location near Dixon's Creek.

Unreal!

Love the colours.
There is a lot going for wide field.
And the witch is easy to spot.

well done Mick

These wide field shots are brilliant. But light pollution gradients must be a nightmare to deal with
