ZEISS’ New 55mm f/1.4 Otus

Hmmm, $4K is a lot of money to spend just to see if it is any good for astro imaging. If it lives up to the hype it might be...

Wow, that's a big price tag and big weight for a 55m lens. Only for the elite.

55mm is not an ideal focal length for astro work. I guess its the nifty fifty size. But really that means guided or tracked imaging which limits its usefulness.

But 2.5 minutes at F1.4 on a Polarie would get you a pretty bright image at ISO1600 which most cameras can do.

Mmm nice lens! If it's aberration-free in the corners of a full-frame chip wide open at f/1.4 as Zeiss claims, then it'd be quite useful as an all rounder. It's definitely not nifty-fifty size... it weighs 1 kg!
