Wonderful result Mike! It shows that there are some reasonable people out there, many of them don't appear to be neighbours however :/

Well done Mike. You could pm his email address to a few of us so we could send him a quick note of appreciation. A little positive feedback goes a long way.

What a great story. It's nice for a change to hear of someone that's willing to work with and not against you. I envy your newly found neighbour and that spectacular observatory/location.

Thanks for sharing.

How about everyone putting their money where their mouth is and buying a truckload of whatever they are selling??

Ha ha on ya guys, it really is a good news story huh?

I just received another phone call from the Quarry supervisor to say the light bank timers have been fixed and set to turn the lights of at 9pm every night and he is still working on getting them to not turn on at all the nights they don't need them too. He was very friendly and enthusiastic again, instructing me to report back on how this works for me.

I mentioned to him how much positive support he and Boral have received from the Aussie astronomical community and how some of you even want to send thankyou emails etc. but he said no need but was quite chuffed to hear this non the less

We have agreed to try and tee up a night for him and some of his workmates to visit Terroux Observatory.

Wow, best news, gives me some vague hope I might get some sympathy with my LP issue.
Good one Mike

Out at the observatory tonight and as promised, lights went off at 9:03pm . Spoke with the Quarry supervisor Scott tonight on my phone, yes on a Sunday!!! To tell him what a difference it makes and he told me he has ordered new timers so the lights can be programed to not turn on at all on the nights not needed....So..a perfect clear sky here, excellent seeing, imaging another tiny gem and the subs are sharp as, just gave some friends a dark sky tour with my 12" dob and they were blown away (the 12" is handling 750X on Saturn with clear glimpses of Enkes division and the polar cap hexagon!) and got tomorrow off...aaah sigh, life is good right now

Mike

Pictures Mike tripping over a peg one night in the dark.
Turns on a torch only to find a mine peg claiming 'this is the site
of the new open cut'.
Headline:
Major new ore body found after mine turns its attention
to paddock 3 km away.

But seriously, great outcome Mike.

...Aaaah yes Steve, that would be a little harder to get cooperation on circumventing I guess

While on the face of it, the lights were not a game changer, my guests I had for observing (newbies) last night arrived while the quarry lights were still on and all commented on how bright they were and how they felt they had to shield their eyes from it while looking in the eyepiece at times. Then when they went off at 9pm they all exclaimed "wow what a difference!" so I am glad I sent that email

All's well that ends well and when the new timers are fitted, the lights being on to 9pm will only occur on three nights a week

Mike
