Looks like the resolution limit of the 8" scope has a little more leeway after all

And I'm just about beginning to get some result from Winjupos, though I don't think it's hugely better than the best 3min stack, and has the issues of looking slightly less natural around the limb (any advice?) and shadows/moons are streaked (also, any advice?). Broke a few of my usual habits due to poor transparency - 27ms vs 16ms exposure, slightly higher gain, only 20-25% (vs usual >40%) on the Firecapture histogram.

Probably the best conditions I've had, and everything else worked nicely, with the GRS & Io transiting, pity the clouds came in at about 8:30pm.

200mm f/5 scope barlowed to f/30. ASI185MC.

First image - Did WinJupos work? a combination of 12x 1-minute clips over 15 minutes, each minute is a stack of 1350 frames, prepped and clipped in PIPP, stacked in Registax, combined in WJ, finished in RS & PS2.

Second image - the best of the 3-minute videos from the 17th, shows pretty much all the detail of the WJ version, and doesn't have streaked shadow. Best 2500 frames of 6700, 180s, 27ms exposure, gain 316.

Third image (for reference) - what I thought was great only a week ago

- 10th May, similar settings but seeing not quite as good, at the time it was one of my best images.

#2 is really good, Andy, and a great improvement on #3. Not a fan of #1.

This may sound a bit rich coming from me, but #1 may be a little over sharpened as it looks like the edges of details having "ringing". The prominent edge is a bit weird, although I can't really explain it. I've had the reverse problem before where the edge of the disc has bright noise but not clean cut-off such as that.

#2 looks good, but the details are more prominent in #1 IMO

#3 is classic less-good-seeing-syndrome. What a difference a week can make

I've not yet cracked the streaky moon problem...

Thinking about the streaking problem...I've gone back and had a quick look at some of my source stacks i.e. the stack from AS!3 of my individual captures, before processing in WJ. What I've found is that the bright spot of the moon is more often than not streaked there.

So when I get a chance I'm going to try chopping the source captures up into smaller pieces to see if it can be minimised. When AS!3 is stacking, it's objective is to combine the best frames across the whole capture. Considering my captures are rarely more than 30 seconds in length, I'm surprised the moon is streaking in that time

Thanks for the comments Dunk, very helpful. You're right on the sharpening, that one's a delicate balance. Haven't really solved the streaky moon problem, but I've improved my Registax technique a fair bit in the meantime... Here's my next effort, but only on the single 3min frame - a distinct improvement with some more align points, drizzling and linked wavelets. Probably still a tad oversharpened. I'm making progress with the Winjupos files, if I have the patience I'll go back through with drizzled files and see if that improves on this one!

I ment to comment the other day but wasnt logged in & a bit busy reading for Imaging Jup capers & tricks

I now see you have sorted a few things on the presentation and what a nicer looking finish on the last fine result !
Maybe needing a smidge more brightening, well looking from my monitor, but Detail Processing are excellent over the entire disc !!
Very well done - going forward in leaps

Sorry I cant give much advice, on what your asking Re Winjupos, I havent used it & therefore all beyond me

But, Awesome for an 8"er there
