Depends on what you're looking for. I dislike the coloured planetary filters myself, but you can get them for $15-$20 each in some Aus retailers, or you can also get them on ebay for a reasonable price. I got my Optolong OIII filter off ebay for a good price after a bit of searching (the prices can vary wildly, so be patient!), and you can also get cheap polarizing filters there as well.

Hi Steve,

I am not sure what equipment you have so it's hard to be specific. Just be aware that the entire optical system is only as good as the weakest component in it and you usually get what you pay for.

In other words I wouldn't be buying cheap filters for use with Pentax XW or Televue eyepieces and an SDM dob, as they will then only perform to the level of the cheap filter. If on the other hand you are using budget eyepieces in a smaller cheaper telescope, it will not hurt to use cheap filters.

Cheers,
John B

Looking for filters to use in a wheel, to do photometry. Looking for a "v" and "I" filter specifically.

There isn't a cheap way of doing this.
I use Astrodon filters.

There are a few brands but "cheap" isn't one of them. Roughly US$200 each filter.
