My St-i?

Tonight, finally after not imaging for nearly 2 months, my ST-i is acting up. To me it looks possibly like the shutter, though I'm hardly sure about this. Any thoughts?

The dark frame looks entirely normal.

Yes that is what I would guess the trouble is. Take it off the guide scope and watch it when you get it going. Perhaps the shutter has some dirt on it and its not fully retracting.

It only does that once and the software uses the same dark to auto subtract.

I followed your advice. The shutter appears normal when taken off the mount and connected directly to the computer.

Edit: Put it back on the mount power and now it's working as expected. Strange because I did power it off and then reconnected it (before taking the camera completely off) and it was still returning the strange image. This kind of thing is vexing. Maybe it won't return (until I want to do something really important!!!)

I get this a fair bit Peter. It is the shutter and it is to do with power from the USB's as far as I can tell. I regularly unplug the USB cable and reseat it just to get rid of any contact dirt etc. That seems to fix it for a while until the next time it does it again. I found with a MHP it would do it all the time with the shutter showing just the barest of a slit. That was unworkable in the end for remote operation.

I suspect you are correct. Vexing as I've installed a powered hub just to run the ST-i. Until last night I'd not seen this before. It's always something!!

I had all sorts of trouble with hubs until I pluged it straight into a PC usb socket. I think it draws a far bit of power.

Just for the record, I use my ST-i through a powered hub with no problems.

Me too. I also hear the shutter 'cycle' when I connect the ST-I with TheSkyX.
