RC-GS 3558 galaxy cluster

Hello,

This field is located in Centaurus, an amazing field of galaxies, most of them seem to be on the right, but they are still every where

This is a work in progress, but thought i would post what I've done so far. A slight Deconvolution performed and a little stretching in CCDstack. FWHM came back as 1.81" on the combined stack.

Planewave cdk 12.5
STL-11000 M
Paramount ME
10 x 30min Lum subs for 5hrs total thus far, but its still quite noisy.
Colour would be grand to.

Full resolution here: http://astrob.in/full/98106/0/

Thanks for looking

Oh, see if you can spot the little galaxy in the far lower right that looks like Saturn.

Josh

That is an amazing field Josh!

Can't wait for the full image. Are you going to add RGB?

I've been pondering what to try next

I find TSX is really helpfull for finding these sort of fields.

Fantastic field that I had not seen before. Well done and I hope you get the rest of your data.

Wow...hasn't Joshua come of age along with the Hydra cluster, two quality images Great capable bit of kit you have there...the sky is certainly open for business for you now huh?

What's the go with the tube reinforcing..? Did you have some flexure going on there?

Mike

Thanks Mike, I appreciate the comments. I actually have a back log of data that i haven't processed from last year, maybe i will just add more to it this year and process it as one.

The tube reinforcing, it seems i had some flexure. The stars in the corners of my ship and elsewhere on the chip changed shape as i slewed around the sky. I cant be sure where the flexure was coming from on the tube or whether it was from a number of sources (it wasnt the camera gear or focuser). But the braces fix it Performs great. Maybe for a smaller chip it wouldn't have mattered, but the STL isn't a small chip and i was also looking for high quality

Thanks

Great to hear you solved the star shape issue, the frame looks lovely

It seems that many scopes, even high end ones, need some clever investigation and correction to get them to sing at times. E.g. While still providing acceptable results, with my large 16803 chip on my very fast AG12 I would love to have some easy image plane tilt adjustments available ...buuut instead of fabricating a solution.... I just started using a smaller chip ...of course I will likely return to using the big chip on the AG12 in the future ...so I too will have to work something out then

Mike

There are image plane tilt adjusters on the market, you probably know that. The double truss design the Planewave and some others use looks to be the goods. I think the structural design of them lends them to be practically flexure free.

Josh, do you mean:
PGC098589 Mag: 16.15 Dim: 0.9 x 0.21' PA: 76, or
PGC098593 Mag: 16.86 Dim: 0.5 x 0.3' PA: 2 (closer to the corner).

The first is Saturnlike when its rings are close to edge on, the second when they are more fully open.

Hey Andrew,

Don't think it's either. An image link in TSX reveals it to be PGC 88890.
Mag: 17.23
0.2 x 0.5
still down in the bottom right corner.

That's a great image Josh.

The stars look very well resolved as well.
