A Planetary in Corvus

This is an image of NGC4361 which is located in Corvus at a distance of 3350 light years. It reminds me of a Shuriken throwing star and it is certainly a lovely looking planetary.

The image contains 25.5 hours of data with the bulk of it being in the narrow band. I also collected luminance and RGB for the stars and the background galaxies. More imaging time would no doubt provide greater depth to the image but it is now starting to set for the year.

Click here for the larger image.

Hope you enjoy the view.

A lovely PN Paul, nicely captured with some nice details

PN's, as a target for amateurs, are definitely under imaged.

Lovely subtle features have come out in the PN Paul. A great little catch.

Well captured Paul, it has an interesting red structure running through the centre.

Great capture of what's obviously a pretty challenging object.
Love the detail you've pulled out and all the background galaxies in the field are a nice bonus.

Agree, there are heaps of PN's out there worth capturing. I think so far I have imaged only 13 of them. This one is particularly nice but I can think of a few more that I would like to get in the next year or so. Some are more northerly and out of my reach though.

As was once said to me Greg, this hobby is not for the impatient. Some of the very faint targets probably require much deeper imaging. One I did for a provisional discovery and including in the HASH catalog was over 34 hours just for a single narrow band frame. It is very faint and very diffuse. PaHa1

Yeah that red stripe is pretty amazing. I did not get the same level of colour that Steve Crouch got lately with his shot of it. Not sure why. Perhaps it was the way I incorporated my data together.

Nice shot Paul. You seem to have captured a lot more internal detail than I did. I think the reason you didn't get the colour was that you didn't have any Ha and OIII.

Cheers

Steve

Hi Steve, thanks for reminding me. I neglected to put the Ha and OIII on to my website information. I have that now though. So it is still a mystery why you got more red.

Nice planetary. Interesting structure and colours. Some cool background faint fuzzies too.

Great! Love the "metallic" blue and the lovely contrast against the RGB background.
