Canon EF 70-200mm f/2.8L IS II USM announced

Just a few weeks ago I mentioned in another thread that I saw the patent applications for several new Canon lenses. One of them was the EF 70-200mm f/2.8L IS II USM.

Today, Canon announced the release of this beast.

Features include a redesigned optical design which has a fluorite element and 5 UD elements to control chromatic aberrations.

Minimum focusing distance has been reduced to 1.2m and an increase in maximum magnification to 0.21x.

External changes feature a wider focusing ring.

I think I'll be putting an order in for one as soon as it's available locally. US availability should begin in April, with a price to be determined.

Who would have thought they would move to Fluorite in the smaller lenses! Sounds magnificent.. Mind you, I've only very very rarely seen CA in images from my 70-200L even wide open aperture on very very contrasty targets... Will be interesting thats for sure..
