HaLRGB for Dummies

The imaging window opened for the first time this year for me last weekend. With so much moon about, I dashed off to Bintel and picked up a Ha filter.

I am now the proud owner of an hour of Ha data for the Tarantula. I've managed to collect some more RGB and L tonight before Mr Moon showed his face again.

So - now what do I do with it? I have been combining LRGB with a combination of Maxim and Photoshop. I also had a play with the technique of combining Ha and L into a single L frame using the Lighten blend mode on PS. The tutorial at

http://www.mistisoftware.com/astronomy/Process_m8.htm

is very helpful. However, I can't get the colour balance right. Perhaps I don't have enough RGB data - I will see tomorrow when I have a chance to play with it.

In case that is not it, can anyone point me to an online tutorial giving some alternatives for combining Ha with LRGB?

Thanks team

Pete

You could try this from Russel Croman's website.

Here's another one -> http://www.robgendlerastropics.com/HARGB.html

Basically you add some Ha to both Red and Lum.

You know Graeme, I scannedthat site but couldn't locate the discussion of Ha combination - it was lurking in the text as the heading was tacked on to the discussion of M42. Thanks for pointing it out - I found it this time. I'll give it a go this evening

Thanks Robin

I have wrestled with this method - for some reason I still get salmon. I guess its pilot error. I'll have another go tonight
