filters terminology

Just requested Peter Tan in Hong Kong to mod my canon. I want the original IR filter replaced with IR/UV glass. Peter says he uses Baader ACF/BCF filter. plus gave me a link to Baadar, unfortunately all in german.
Is the Baadar ACF/BCF the same as an IR/UV?
THis is a big project for me and i dont want to end up with the wrong glass. Unfortunately cant get a clearer answer from Peter.

Help needed

Regards
Carl

Yes depending on the model of your Canon - the Baader "astro" UV/IR filter is correct - I believe besides doing its work of bandpassing/blocking it also is the correct thickness to replace what was removed as the focus of the camera was adjusted with the original filter in place

Others with better knowledge than me would chime in

Which canon do you want to modify?
On the pre-400D models -to use standard camera lenses you need to replace the 3mm thick filter.
On newer cameras the filter is only 0.8mm thick and I find I can still focus my 1000D normally with the filter removed. So, maybe you don't need to replace the filter......

Modding camera

I will be modding a canon 500d.
I am advised that i will need a UV/IR filter in the camera to attain focus and avoid blooming stars. If i replace the filter with clear glass and then use an Astonomik clip in UV/IR filter should that not give me the same correct focus?
That way i will have a camera that i can also youe for infra red photography with the addition of an external IR filter

You don't need the filter replaced for focus, but yes the additional UV and IR wavelengths can give bloating in astro shots.
The clip in UV-IR is a good solution for NON EF-S lenses.....(or just have a UV-IR in the optical train before the camera if mounted on a telescope)
