Thats absolutely the case.
If your rig is rock solid, mount is properly polar Aligned and you are using a Paramount ME or equivalent level mount in terms of tracking, backlash and periodic error then your guide interval could be many minutes and you will get nice stars

I once imaged in Tarantaula in Ha and the only star available to guide with (without changing my framing or rotation angle) was extremely faint (in Ha) - so I just kept nudging up the exposure time until I got a signal to noise ratio I was happy with to guide with and as I recall that was either 200 or 300 secs
I used TPoint for mapping and probably had around 20 stars in the model but I did not have ProTrack enabled, I had PEC enabled but that was neglible in any case.

Its possible that since I was also close to the pole I benefited from less error too.
But I had no noticeable ellipsicity.


BTW That mount is for sale !
