G'Day,
Going back months ago I contacted Wayne about the cost to Australia and he said that it would not be all that expensive as he knows a bloke who sends gear by container to NZ and Aus,However it was taking to long for them to make them and they were going to sell local first, then Europe so God knows when they would get around to sending them here.I could be dead and buried by that time, thats why I decided to build my own,but to be honest I'd love to have had one of them. Here is the news group http://tech.groups.yahoo.com/group/skyshed-pod/
and here is there web site,

turn up the volume on your speakers
Cheers

The saga of the SkyShed Pod has been going on for about a year! Now it is finally released, they are all sold with masses of back orders. I hope no-ones in a hurry for one.

They should create a special wait list que for Australian customers and ship them in bulk by container once they get enough orders to fill one container.

I've been tracking this for about a year - go knows how many e-mails I've recieved. The price seems to have drifted up from their original target, but not horrendeously so...

Ahhh. domes. Anyone know anything of your local manufacturer, Sirius?
I am in "Dome Mode" over winter, and while I may end up with the DIY situation, I would also like to see what the ready to use ones are like and cost.
I sent Sirius an e mail with no reply, yet.

G'Gay Gary,
Unless you want to pay a arm and a leg give Sirius a big miss,$6000 plus. And just for shipping to my home was the guts of $800 and that was over a year ago,the other one to give a wide birth to is ww.astrodomes.com/ $12000 for the Dome, I was not game enough to ask them the cost of shipping Sirius did send me a cd when I first inquired, but God only knows how much it would cost you for shipping +the exchange rate, build it yourself Gary believe me it's cheaper.
Cheers

G'Day,
As a after though, when I had bought all the material, I was thinking that I should have bought a Water Tank,a plastic one about 2.1 mt across and about 2.4 high, was $1100 incl shipping anywhere from W'Gong to Newcastle, then all you had to do was to cut the floor out,cut out a door, cut out a slit for the roof. You can get them in white and off white and will never leak, and with the floor that you just cut out, just cut a hold in the middle the width of your pier, slip it over the pier and Bob's your Uncle,so much easier and quicker and no hassle, with a few heavy duty casters on the bottom and thats it,put it on concrete or a wooden platform.BTW is does not have to be plastic, tin would be just as good, but would need a little more work than the plastic one's
Cheers

Arthur I've been looking into a poly water tank as a simpler and less expensive alternative to a "proper" astro dome for ages now, and I reckon it's the way to go. I was going to post more info in this thread but I have started a new thread instead as I figured many folk who may find the idea interesting may not necessarily read this thread all the way through.

Cheers folks!

Hi Arthur, no offence taken, I like Irish Whiskey. I think with the sorts of figures be bandied around, I am destined to go the DIY way. I had the gear out last night with a bit of an imaging session, and really it isn't all that bad carrying the stuff the short distance I do. I may opt for the lazy "nah, next year" approach.
Thanks again
Gary
