The Prawn as seen from Uluru

Hi Guys

It would be a real shame to drive for 3000km and not take advantage of the great skies out here wouldn't you think?

Here's one I shot during last months new moon from Uluru,NT with my then working ML 8300

Object: IC 4628

Exposures: Lum=19 x 6min RGB= 15min each

Telescope: BabyQ/Reducer

Mount: GPDX/SS2/Guided

Camera: FLI ML8300/LRGB Filters

Software: Astroart5/PS CS4

Hope you enjoy.

You can really see the difference that dark skies make, Louie. Love the vivid colours in the neb and stars. The contrast between the star fields on left and right is very interesting too.

Cheers,
Rick.

Nice colours and processing in general Louie, but I think there are two parts of the nebulae in the field that look over blown to me. The prawn itself and the small nebula above that. The rest of the image is superb though with great colour and smooth looking background.

Date for IC 4628

That is a great image Louie.

I have been trying to find the date when IC 4628 was first imaged by E E Barnard. It seems that it was before 12 June 1895.

Here is one of his first images. It was taken with the 6" Crocker telescope at the Lick Observatory near San Francisco.
http://articles.adsabs.harvard.edu//...00207.000.html

Barnard imaged it again 10 years later on 21 June 1905 with the 10" Bruce telescope from Mt Wilson near Los Angeles.
It is plate/region 16 on this page.
