Tamron 18-200mm F3.5-6.3

The new lens cap for my 550D arrived today.
I normally keep the 18-55 kit lens on the front for day to day use, but it's range is very limiting. If I'm heading out for a walk I'm obliged to lug along a bag full of extra lenses and you all know how heavy they get after a while.
I chose this particular lens, not just because of the price, $237 delivered to my door, but also because I'm quite partial to Tamron's.
I've taken only 4 photos with it so far, just to test out it's range.
I'm impressed with what you get for your money.
Being made predominantly of plastic, the weight is kept down to a tad over 400g.
The focus ring is as wide as my thumb with a built in rubber nurl about a cm wide. Fine focussing is not a problem.
Changing focal length, again there is a nurled rubber grip, the full width of the zoom ring. When extending, it's maybe not as smooth as it could be, but at least you know it's not going to extend on it's own when hanging down around your neck or shoulder.
You can lock the lens at 18mm just to be on the safe side.
The images I've posted are just snaps to show the focal range, taken hand held, so there's no way to judge the quality of the shots as yet.

Tomorrow I'll put it on the tripod and see how she performs optically.
