I here you when you say most of the time you spend is on testing gear on perfectly good imaging nights. Its all worth it in the end if you make progress and take notes on what works for you - this is proof in the pudding great shot. Your new camera choice will make a huge difference from the DSLR.
I'm still using my modded Canon60D - its seems like technology is moving quick with these cooled cameras and improved sensors.
