Maybe a process is hogging the hard drive or CPU. Do a CTRL+ALT+DELETE to bring the windows task manager and check the process list in the "processes" tab. "System Idle Process" should be the biggest in CPU usage. Also click on the "resource monitor" button in the "Performance" tab and check that as well for RAM, CPU or disc activity.
