You can get all types on ebay, for very reasonable prices.
I've got a 1gig card in my 350D, which gives about 100 images in RAW format. For astrophotography, I never use more than that in 1 session because most of the time I download them to the computer immediately anyway.
On holidays, I usually take the laptop with me and transfer them to the laptop each night.
