Hi Mel. I prefer the single stack for proms and spicules, which can be quite spectacular at high power. The DS is great when there are active regions and filaments, and especially filaproms, which add that 3D feel to the DS view.
Using the polarizer, the image is darker, but I found that by rotating the lens hood by 45 to 90 deg at a time you can find a position where the image is brighter.
