Haven't read any of the above links yet ( I'm at work ) but there was an article yesterday about the SKA saying it won't really be operational till about 2030. And by that time it will have been superseded by other technology advances making it obsolete. It was posted by some concerned astronomers over here casting doubts on the value of spending more NZ$ on it.

I understand how it can be a long process for projects of this size and nature but confess I'd be concerned about the value after that length of time. Technology is just moving so fast now.
