The AP portapier is excellent. The ground does not have to very level at all. It has wide and arched feet, and is extremely stable. There is surprising adjustment from the turnbuckle arrangement. It was also inexpensive. I carry around 35kg of payload, and the shaft is full of AP weights - never had a problem.
