I’m a bit old school , go by the manual , do it once do it right , don’t take short cuts etc..
For AP I still use the Synscan handcontroller on my HEQ5 mount to polar align but use BYEOS to view my Star centering in the reticle, gets me below 1 arc minute error most of the time then PHD2 takes over
Great scope the 12” goto, it took me 8 months to make up my mind but I’m glad I bought it. I use to have a 10” solid tube dob ( push, pull , nudge ) hard work but it taught me the night sky quickly before relying on a planetarium
You must have really good dark skies around your town
