The "PixInsight" philosophy is that masking and manipulating is fine but the masks must be derived from the data. Painting a mask is a heinous crime

True - but we are revealing much more than the naked eye could ever see when we stretch an image.
We can hardly even see our own Milky Way - it's so dim -
except if we are in a very dark site.
