Hi Ken,
Just looked at your updated equipment, Saxons. Have you considered mounting them side by side?
A nice piece of 20mm thick ply, water proofed, dovetail bar screwed to the ply and both instruments mounted side by side.
Brings the weight closer to the centre of the mount, less counterweight needed, more stable.
Just a thought.
